Ian Douglas Terry was just a skinny punk rock kid from Columbus, Nebraska with a penchant for cutting loose and a dream. That dream? To make the world a better place through rock n’ roll like U2 or Kid Rock. And even though that may not have been Ian’s actual dream, I like to think about him dreaming it. Because how great an image is that? For whatever reason that dream didn’t work out, maybe because it wasn’t his dream, I don’t know, semantics, but the point is Ian turned his attention to stand up comedy and the rest, as they say, is Ian still doing stand-up comedy four years later.

But the things this boy-prince has done in four years! The face behind the venerable OK Party Comedy gang, Ian saw that there was really no scene like he wanted in his adopted home-town of Omaha, Nebraska so like any good, DIY-er he went on out and made one. Piece by piece, show by show. Ian and the OK Party crew started inviting me out to shows in Omaha soon after and not only did I find out I loved the city of Omaha – no joke, if you think it’s some podunk little Midwest town, visit there, it is alive and culturally vibrant – but I also realized this IDT character is a solid dude. The bee’s knees actually. I’m glad to call him a friend and glad that he and I have had cause to hang out and tell jokes two, three, four times a year together for the past handful of years. Good people, good times, okay jokes. We’re working on it.

Ian recently drove to Des Moines where I was working the Funny Bone. We hung out for a day, toured the amazing Iowa state capitol, then podcasted in my hotel room. Then, after some shows, we came back to the hotel room drunk and decided to talk shit about our friend Rory Scovel. Because why not?

Ian wanted you to watch the following two videos because he is a weirdo. This one, “Crazy Horses” by the Osmond Brothers:

and then “Mein Land” by Rammstein:
