EMILY HELLER CAME TO DENVER, COLORADO AND PERFORMED ON THE GRAWLIX AND THEN SHE CAME OVER TO MY HOUSE AND RECORDED AN EPISODE OF MY PODCAST!!!

I’m sorry to shout so loudly in your ear but I’m excited about this fact. Because I liked Emily from the second I met her. Mostly because I had just read a piece of smut fan-fiction at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival about Friday Night Lights and she had not been able to see my reading (she was busy preparing her own piece for the same show), but she had heard about it and immediately demanded that I send it to her. And so I did. And so a friendship was born. Off of smut.

But what I liked about Emily is that she immediately reminded me of many women that I went to college with. Incredibly intelligent, don’t-take-any-shit, probably-lived-in-some-anarchist-artesenal-belt-buckle-making-dorm, feminist women who are not afraid to set you straight should they see the need. My mom and sisters are that way. So is Emily. And I like women like that. I respect them, look up to them even. So I clumsily invited her on the podcast and even more clumsily said hey-oh-gee-whiz Emily can you tell me how I’m supposed to think on this issue and that issue as an informed, twenty-first century woman who probably spelled that “womyn” for a brief period in her life and understands this whole girls-shouldn’t-use-the-word-bossy thing far better than I? Emily happily obliged. Then she told me why she doesn’t need to do that nor is it her responsibility. And she was right.

Then we talked about television for a long time. And her amazing website SuckMyDickNewYorker.

I think you’ll find the resulting conversation very entertaining. I sure did. Then to top it all off we watched these two Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers sweet collabos. Which were both totally boss.

and

Then I gave Emily a ride home.
