Ian-Karmel

In the time between recording this episode of My Dining Room Table and releasing it, Ian Karmel has become the king of Los Angeles. He lives in a mansion in Laurel Canyon, dates Miley Cyrus and is allowed to sleep inside the ‘Y’ in the Hollywood sign when it is not being rented out by South Korean tourists. Not really. But he is killing it!

Homegirl just made an appearance on the Chelsea Handler roundtable show where that mewing she-skeleton takes pot-shots at celebrities and by all accounts my boy Ian killed it. He is settling nicely into LA. Portland’s native son has moved on and I wish him nothing but the best because I love Ian Karmel, I’m a big fan of Ian Karmel and accordingly, I’m rooting for him.

I caught up with Ian at My Dining Room Table in June when he came out for the Grawlix and straight murder-death-killed his way through the comedy scene of Denver. This occurred mere weeks before his departure from his beloved home of Portland, Oregon for the bright lights of LA. Ian was bittersweet about the move so it makes for an interesting conversation from an interesting time in a young comedian’s life. I enjoyed talking with Ian at this juncture in his career. We have a lot in common; we’re zealots for our cities, we’re both former humor columnists, and we both hate most improv. So give this episode a listen and then keep up on Ian Karmel via his twitter. And if you’re reading this and are in the position to name a sandwich after me, name a sandwich after me! That way I can be more like my boy Ian.

Here’s one of Ian’s favorite videos, Busta Rhyme’s “Gimme Some More”
