The Comedy Works in Denver, Colorado is one of the best comedy clubs in the United States. Period.  If you’re a die-hard comedy fan, you should make a pilgrimage, the way weird kids from the mid-West would to CBGB’s in the 1980’s. All of the top comedians in the country have performed at Comedy Works – many recorded albums there – and most national, touring headliners would list the club in their top five. And this is all because of Wende Curtis, former waitress-turned-manager-turned-owner-turned-CEO. Simply put: Wende Curtis is Comedy Works. Well the staff too, they all rule, but Wende is their fearless leader. She is the den-mother/gate-keeper to Denver comedy and the man, nix that, the woman behind the legendary club that I am so lucky to call home.

Comedy Works is the first club I ever performed at and so many years and miles later it is still my favorite club to perform at. What a treat, then, to sit down with Wende Curtis and talk about everything that went into making the club all that it is today.

This Thanksgiving I am grateful for Comedy Works and I am grateful for Wende, for making the comedy club in my backyard one of the best in the entire world. When I started doing comedy, I didn’t know what a jewel I had right there downtown on Larimer Street. Now I know. And knowing is half the battle. G.I. Joe.
